The Natural Grottoes made of macco marino date back around four billion years. The old percorso ipogeo, in addition to its importance from the geological point of view, in 1944 allowed the disembarcation of American troops. In 1994 as part of the fiftieth anniversary commemoration of the end of the Second World War, the archeological site was visited by the president of the United States of America, George W. Bush. Now it attracts many tourists and guests who visit the villa.
From a geological point of view the area is made up of klast sedimentary rock formed of chalk particles stratified to the dimensions of sand, which is due to an ancient spit connecting the beach and the sea environment. The calcareniti are very rich in fossil remains, especially of bivalves.
